The FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Team Championships 2025 is scheduled from the June 11-16th. This year, the tournament will be hosted at the Novotel, London West, United Kingdom. The cumulative prize fund for the tournament is 500,000 Euros- 310,000 for the Rapid and 190,000 for the Blitz!
After two successful editions with two podium finishes, Team MGD1 is ready and excited for the third edition of the tournament. Grandmasters Arjun Erigaisi, Pentala Harikrishna, Pranav V and Srinath Narayanan are back in the team. However, we also have some new faces who will be donning the team colors this year- GM Leon Mendonca and GM David Anton Guijarro. IM Tsolakidou Stavroula will be will be replacing GM Harika Dronavalli on the women’s board. On the recreational board, we have Atharva P Tayade fighting it out for the team!
With a rating average of 2580, we’re the 5th seed in the Rapid event. We’re also the 5th seed in the Blitz event with a rating average of 2572.
This year, Team MGD1 is being sponsored by Hariharan Raghavan, an Investor and a chess amateur. He is rated 1656 in Blitz, and 1400 in Rapid!
